THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
-
The Wildcats are looking to start 2-0 for the 10th time under Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald, who is now in his 17th season at the helm of Northwestern Football. The 'Cats started 2-0 in seven-consecutive seasons from 2007-13. They also did so in 2015 and 2020 (starting 5-0 in both those seasons).
- A pair of Wildcat tailbacks currently rank in the Top 10 in the Big Ten in rushing: RB Evan Hull (119 yards/gm; 6th) and RB Cam Porter (94 yards/gm; 8th). Northwestern joins Minnesota as the only two schools in the conference to have multiple backs rank in the Top-10 in the conference in rushing yards per game. Hull and Porter became the first Wildcat tandem to each tally 50 rushing yards and a TD in a Big Ten matchup since the duo also did so against Illinois on Dec. 12, 2020.
- Duke leads the all-time series against the Wildcats, 11-10. The Blue Devils have won each of the last three meetings dating back to 2017. Prior to that, NU had won the last three meetings (2008, 2015, 2016). The programs first met in 1985 and played for each of the next six years (1985-1990), with Duke winning every meeting. After a brief hiatus, the series resumed in 1996 and since 1996, the Wildcats have won 10 of the last 15 meetings. A look back at the two most recent meetings.
