'Cats Lose High-Scoring Opener

Evanston, IL - Northwestern Baseball dropped the first game of a weekend series against Purdue in a high-scoring 14-8 affair at Rocky & Berenice Miller Park.

The Wildcats took the lead behind a pair of RBIs from Anthony Calarco and Ethan O'Donnell, as two of the team's best hitters came through to give Northwestern a 2-0 lead. A five-run fourth inning would give Purdue a lead the Boilermakers would never give up on Friday.

O'Donnell's strong afternoon would continue with a two-run, two-out RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning. The sophomore's .613 slugging percentage in 2022 leads all qualified Northwestern hitters.

Tommy D'Alise and Ruben Fontes would provide some late offense for the Wildcats with a pair of RBIs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Sean Sullivan struck out five over 3.1 innings of work on Friday. The Wildcats and Boilermakers will renew acquaintances on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
