Series Wrap Up: 'Cats Sweep Indiana, Return Home

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern swept a three-game series against Indiana this weekend on the road in Bloomington. The 'Cats scored at least eight runs in each game and outscored the Hoosiers 32-12 in the series, improving to 34-7 on the season and 15-2 in Big Ten play.

Standout Performances
  • Rachel Lewis crushed her 19th home run of the season on Sunday, moving into sole possession of first place on the Big Ten home run leaderboard this season.
    • Lewis's 19 home runs ties Adrienne Monka's 2009 total for second place in program history. She is four short of Garland Cooper's program record of 23 home runs in 2007, and five shy of 24 homers, the Big Ten single season record.
    • Lewis is the fourth player in Big Ten history to reach 60 career home runs. She is two home runs away from moving into sole possession of second place in the Big Ten home run record book.
    • Last weekend, Lewis became the program's all-time home run leader, breaking Tammy Williams' (2006-09) record that stood for 13 years.
    • Lewis's 1.356 OPS ranks second in the Big Ten.
  • Skyler Shellmyer notched two hits on Saturday and three hits on Sunday, raising her average to .358.
    • Shellmyer leads the Wildcats with 16 multi-hit games this season.
    • After hitting .360 last season, the Urbandale, Iowa native is on pace to become the first Wildcat to hit .350 or higher in consecutive seasons since Sabrina Rabin in 2017-18.
  • Nikki Cuchran drove seven runs on five hits, including two triples and a home run this weekend.
    • Cuchran has driven in at least one run in eight of the past nine games, tallying 14 RBI over that span.
    • Her 41 RBI rank fourth in the conference.
  • Hannah Cady hit three home runs, scored five runs, and drove in six in the series.
    • Cady blasted two home runs in Friday's game for her first career multi-homer game.
    • Since a three-hit game against Murray State on March 5, Cady is hitting .365 (30-for-82) with six home runs.
  • Danielle Williams struck out 23 batters in and posted a 1.16 ERA (three earned runs) in 18.0 innings pitched over the weekend.
    • Williams leads the Big Ten with a 1.32 ERA, 248 strikeouts, 22 wins, and 11 saves in 165.0 IP.
    • Her 248 strikeouts are third best in the country.
Looking Ahead
  • Northwestern scored 30+ runs for the second consecutive weekend this series. It is the first time since 2018 that the 'Cats have scored 30+ runs in back-to-back three game series.
