Williams Named Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. – Danielle Williams was named a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award on Wednesday, the program announced.
 
It is the second time Williams has been named a finalist for the award, also receiving the recognition in 2019 after posting a 1.55 ERA and 317 strikeouts in 230.0 innings.
 
Williams joins Kayla Konwent of Wisconsin as the only Big Ten players named finalists for the award and is one of 10 pitchers to be nominated.
 
The Pleasanton, Calif. native has returned to dominant form this season, posting a career-best 1.40 ERA and 213 strikeouts across 140.0 innings. Williams leads the Big Ten in ERA, wins (18), saves (11), and batting average against (.153).
 
Williams has earned the win against seven ranked opponents this season and tossed her second-career no-hitter on March 20 against Stanford. The following game, she struck out a career-high 17 batters in a masterful one-hit shutout against Michigan State on March 25.
