EVANSTON, Ill. – Lauren Gilbert, Jill Girardi and Samantha White all received Big Ten weekly honors after their performances in wins over No. 15 Rutgers and San Diego State.
In addition to Big Ten Offensive Player of the week, Gilbert was also named the IWCLA National Player of the Week. With a career-high eight goals, the Oregon native led the Wildcat offense to a convincing 21-13 victory over Rutgers. She also contributed an assist to post another career-high in points (9). Gilbert added four more goals and three assists against San Diego State for seven more points on the week. She currently leads the conference in goals (56) and goals per game (4).
Girardi, co-Big Ten Midfielder of the Week, also posted a career performance against the Scarlet Knights with a whopping 19 draw controls, the most by any Big Ten player this season and second in Northwestern program history. She currently leads the Big Ten in the draw circle, averaging 10.58 draws per game. Girardi also added four goals in each game against Rutgers and San Diego State.
White was named the Big Ten Freshman of the week for the second week in a row. The first-year shone on both offense and defense against Rutgers, picking up a career-high four ground balls and netting her third goal of the season. Against the Aztecs, White added another career-high with five draw controls, alongside two ground balls and a caused turnover.
All three will be back in action on Saturday at noon when No. 3 Northwestern faces off with John's Hopkins at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium on Senior Day.
