'Cats Trounce Roosevelt in Seven Innings

Evanston, IL - Northwestern defeated Roosevelt in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon, taking down the Lakers in a run-rule 14-4 victory in seven innings.

Jay Beshears stayed hot with a three-RBI day against the Lakers, extending Northwestern's lead early with a two-run RBI double in the first inning and adding an RBI single in the sixth inning. The Naples, FL has gotten a hit in 13 of his last 14 games and is hitting .365 on the 2022 season.

Alex Calarco and Stephen Hrustich also drove home a pair of RBIs in the seven-inning win. Calarco drove an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the first, before scoring his brother Anthony Calarco on a groundout in the bottom of the third.

Hrustich hit a SAC fly to score Beshears in the bottom of the first, before ending the game with a home run to left field, nearly identical to the walk-off home run he crushed to beat Penn State on Sunday.

Jacob Scharm got the start for Northwestern, tossing three innings of one-run baseball and striking out two.

Northwestern will hit the road for a matchup in Champaign between two of the top four teams in the Big Ten as they battle Illinois in a weekend series.

The Wildcats return to Rocky & Berenice Miller Park on Tuesday for a midweek clash with Saint Louis.
