LINCOLN, Neb. – Northwestern defeated Nebraska 4-1 on the road on Friday evening at the Dillon Center.
The No. 37 Wildcats improved to 10-5 and continued their hot start to Big Ten play, moving to 5-0. They earned a top-75 win over No. 53 Nebraska, who fell to 19-7 and 3-2 in the conference.
It is the Wildcats' sixth consecutive Big Ten campaign with a 5-0 start or better, dating back to 2016.
Northwestern started strong with a comeback in doubles to secure the first point. Briana Crowley and Christina Hand earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 and Sydney Pratt and Hannah McColgan came back from a break down to win 6-3 at No. 3.
Ch. Hand got on the board first in singles with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over Samantha Alicea at No. 6. It was Hand's fifth win in a row.
Nebraska got a point back at 2-1, but Sydney Pratt quickly made the lead 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Maja Makoric at No. 3.
Maria Shusharina clinched the match with a strong finish to win 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 over Isabel A. Gallego.
Ema Lazic's match finished before a third set, while Justine Leong's match finished up a set and at 3-4 in the second.
The Wildcats stay on the road and will face Iowa on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
