EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 9 Northwestern travels to South Bend to take on No. 25 Notre Dame on Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT on ACC Network.
The Wildcats earned a series win against No. 23 Michigan at Sharon J. Drysdale Field this past weekend, taking two of three games. It is the first time Northwestern has defeated Michigan in Evanston since 2009.
Coming off two consecutive Big Ten Pitcher of the Week awards, Danielle Williams was dominant again on Friday, striking out 16 Wolverines over nine innings in the 4-3 win. Maeve Nelson, Rachel Lewis, and Jordyn Rudd all homered for the 'Cats, but it was Rudd's infield single that delivered the knockout blow in the ninth inning.
Rudd has been a dynamic player for the Wildcats this season, making an impact on both sides of the field. The Greenwood, Ind. native has thrown out 30.8% of base-stealers this season, the highest rate in the Big Ten, while leading the 'Cats with 30 RBI at the plate.
Williams leads the Big Ten with 184 strikeouts in 120 innings this season and ranks second with a 1.28 ERA. She is currently Northwestern's all-time leader in strikeouts per seven innings at 9.54.
This is the 25th matchup between Northwestern and Notre Dame, with the Wildcats winning the past two games. Northwestern is 14-10 all time against the Fighting Irish.
Northwestern has earned eight wins against ranked opponents this season, including wins over No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 Washington, and No. 9 Oregon.
