Five Homers Power 'Cats Past SIU

Carbondale, IL - Northwestern used five home runs, including leading off the game with back-to-back-to-back homers, to defeat Southern Illinois 10-4 on Friday night. With the victory, the Wildcats extend their winning streak to five games, the team's longest since the 2019 season.

The trio of solo shots came off the bats of Ethan O'Donnell, Anthony Calarco and Jay Beshears, who gave the Wildcats a lead they would never relinquish on the road. O'Donnell and Beshears would homer in their next at-bats to extend the Northwestern lead in the fourth and fifth inning.

The 'Cats would also rely on offensive contributions from Vincent Bianchina, who scored Calarco on a SAC fly, to give Northwestern starter Sean Sullivan plenty of run support in Carbondale. As if he needed it.

The first-year phenom improved to 4-0 on the 2022 season with five innings of two-run baseball, striking out five Salukis. Coby Moe tossed three impressive innings in relief, allowing just one run to help deliver the series-opening win for Northwestern.

Chicago's Big Ten Team returns to the diamond on Saturday afternoon at 12pm for a neutral site matchup against Butler in Carbondale.
