ROSEMONT, Ill. – Northwestern lacrosse's Lauren Gilbert has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Jill Girardi tabbed Midfielder of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Gilbert powered the Wildcats offense in their 16-15 overtime win over No. 3 Syracuse by scoring seven goals, which included the game-tying and game-winning scores. She led NU in both goals (four) and points (five) in a loss at No. 2 North Carolina, bringing her weekly total to 11 goals and two assists for 13 points. Gilbert also compiled seven draw controls on the week, including a season-high five against North Carolina.
Girardi recorded a career-highs posting five goals, five points, and 13 draw controls in the win over the Orange. She won the first draw control of overtime, setting up Gilbert's game-winner. Her 13 draw controls against Syracuse are the second-most in a single game this season by a Big Ten player behind Rutgers' Shaylan Ahearn, who registered 14 draw controls on Feb. 26 vs. Florida. Girardi added a goal and six draw controls at North Carolina. She is the first Wildcat to ever win Big Ten Midfielder of the Week.
Northwestern hosts No. 6 Stony Brook at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 inside Ryan Fieldhouse.
