EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern had their way with Purdue in a 68-51 win on Thursday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena as they celebrated a historic senior class.
Veronica Burton, Courtney Shaw, Sydney Wood and Jess Sancataldo were honored before the game. The class is one of the most successful in program history, winning a Big Ten championship in 2020 and wininng an NCAA Tournament game in 2021, both achievements that had not been accomplished in over 25 years.
The 'Cats improved to 16-10 and 8-7 in conference play while dropping Purdue to 16-12 and 7-10 in the Big Ten. One regular season game remains as the 'Cats jockey for postseason opportunities.
While the attention was on the four nominal seniors, graduate Lauryn Satterwhite put together a career-performance in her last home game at Welsh-Ryan Arena, scoring a career-high 20 points in 8-12 shooting and 4-8 from deep while adding four assists. At one point in the second quarter, she scored 10 points in a row for NU.
Shaw earned her second double-double in a row with 10 points and 14 rebounds, along with three blocks and six steals, a career-high, in one of her best defensive performances of the season.
Burton managed the game in her typical fashion, finishing with 12 points, eight assists, three steals and a block.
First-year Jillian Brown also scored in double digits with 11 points and six rebounds.
Sancataldo made her first career start and drained a triple in the first quarter.
On the whole, the Wildcats had success turning Purdue over and enjoyed a 22-7 turnover advantage which they converted into a 22-4 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday at Nebraska on Big Ten Network at 3:30 p.m. CT.
