The Cats' welcome Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, March 22 for their first home matchup of 2022. Opening day at The J kicks off a series of promotional events throughout the year, with Tuesday's game featuring fun and food as the team welcomes all to join for Taco Tuesday and Softball Bingo.
The Wildcats saw success in their last campaign as they qualified for their sixth NCAA Regional over the past seven tournaments. The Cats will return 10 starters from the previous season including First Team All-Big Ten Honors recipients, Rachel Lewis, Skyler Shellmyer, Jordyn Rudd and Danielle Williams.
NU completed the 2021 regular season in third place in the Big Ten, which was the Cats' ninth Top-5 finish in the Big Ten since 2010. Northwestern was one of three Big Ten teams to secure a berth in last season's NCAA Tournament. In addition, returning head coach Kate Drohan and associate head coach Caryl Drohan became the program's all-time wins leaders last season. The Drohans have spent the last two decades heading the program in Evanston.
Other exciting events include Alumni Weekend for Northwestern's highly touted series against Michigan (Apr 1-3). The Wildcats will welcome back an array of former players–including the 1986-87 teams which captured back-to-back Big Ten titles, as well as the 2006-07 teams that made back-to-back Women's College World Series appearances.
The Cats will wrap up the regular season at The J with their final home series against Iowa (Apr 29- May 1) for Senior Weekend.
