EVANSTON, Ill. – A strong second half effort from Northwestern fell short in a 2-1 defeat to Rutgers on Friday night at Martin Stadium.
The Wildcats fell behind in the first half on a shot from distance but responded well in the second frame.
After some sustained pressure, the 'Cats earned a corner kick. The rebound was recycled out wide to Bardia Kimiavi, who delivered a pinpoint cross to Spencer Farina. The graduate defender sent a header towards the goal where Rom Brown finished it off at point blank to tie the game.
The goal was Brown's second of the season, while the assists were Kimiavi's second and Farina's first.
The Wildcats dropped to 4-7-2 and 1-5 in the Big Ten while Rutgers improved to 8-3-2 and 2-3-1 in conference.
Northwestern is back in action on Tuesday in Madison when it takes on Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
