MUNCIE, Ind. – Northwestern closed out its non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 6-1 win over Ball State.
Bente Baekers notched a hat trick, her second of the season, while three other Wildcats added goals of their own.
Northwestern improves to 10-4 on the season with the victory, as well as 9-1 in non-conference play. Six of the Wildcats' non-conference wins have come against ranked opponents, while their few setbacks have all come against teams ranked in the Top-15 in the nation.
Lauren Wadas put the 'Cats on the board first just over four minutes into the game. Baekers provided the assist on the first goal, and then added her first goal of the game late in the quarter to give NU a 2-0 advantage at the end of one.
A flurry of goals via Maddie Zimmer and Baekers early in the second extended the Wildcats' lead, and Baekers notched her third goal of the game with just 16 seconds remaining in the first half to give Northwestern a 5-0 advantage heading into the break.
Shannon Daley scored her first goal of the season in the third quarter to put the finishing touches on a dominant offensive performance.
In total, Northwestern outshot Ball State, 47-3, with a 27-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 16-2 difference in penalty corner attempts.
