Second Half Flurry Sinks Wildcats at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Northwestern took an early lead in front of the NIttany Lion faithful on Friday night, but two early goals in the second half handed the 'Cats a 2-1 defeat to Penn State in the Big Ten opener.

Sophomore Justin Weiss scored for the Wildcats in the 12th minute on an assist from Vicente Castro. The goal was the second of the season for Weiss, tying him for the team lead in points with five. Castro registered his second assist of the season and the sixth assist of his career.

Miha Miskovic started in goal and made four saves. The Wildcat offense did its best to get back in the game after the second Penn State goal, with Weiss nearly equalizing in the 87th minute, sending a cross from Jose Del Valle just wide of the post. 

The Wildcats move to 2-3-2 on the season, and are back in action on Tuesday night for a blockbuster against No. 11 Indiana at Martin Stadium. The match will be televised on Big Ten Network and is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. CT.
