Nguyen Delivers Top-10 Finish in College Debut

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – First-Year Lauryn Nguyen grabbed an eighth-place finish in her Wildcat debut this week, as the Northwestern women's golf team began their season at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor.

The Seattle native was steady throughout the tournament, shooting even par, 71, in the second round and closing with a final round 72 to secure a share of eighth place on Tuesday.

Her strong finish saw Nguyen climb from 26th place after a first round 73 into the top ten of a field that included nationally-ranked programs Virginia Tech, Virginia and Kent State.

Nguyen was joined by two other Wildcats in the top half of the 90-golfer field, as sophomore Jieni Li and senior Kelly Sim helped Northwestern secure an eighth-place team finish.

Li was 5-over on Monday afternoon, but used a final round 1-over to climb ten spots on the final day of the Wolverine Invitational to finish with a share of 14th place.

She wasn't the only Wildcat to make a Tuesday surge, as Sim saved her strongest golf of the tournament for the final round, closing with a 3-over, 74, and finishing in a tie for 43rd.

Chicago's Big Ten Team returns to the course next weekend in Nashville, when Northwestern will compete at the Mason Rudolph Invitational.
