EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern dropped the opening contest of a three-game series to Iowa on Friday by a final score of 6-1. The 'Cats now sit at 12-19 on the season.
Mike Doherty got the start for Northwestern, spinning five innings of three-run ball. Doherty held the Hawkeyes in check through four innings, but surrendered a two-out, two-run home run in the fifth.
Michael Trautwein managed a single and double off of Iowa ace Trenton Wallace, while Anthony Calarco continued his impressive season with an eighth-inning blast to left field. Calarco is slashing .323 with nine home runs on the year.
