Moss, Kolakowski Earn CCFC Coaching Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. — Following the conclusion of NCAA Championships, the head coaches of the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference voted Northwestern's Zach Moss and Dennis Kolakowski Women's Team Coach of the Year and Women's Team Assistant Coach of the Year, respectively.

Women's Team Coach of the Year: Zach Moss, Head Coach of Northwestern University

Coach Moss led the Wildcats to a 17-9 season record, including a 7-1 conference record and CCFC Regular Season Co-Championship. The Wildcats also won the Women's Foil Squad Championship, were Co-Champions in Women's Saber, and Runner's Up in Women's Epee.

The Wildcats qualified six women to NCAA Championships for the second time in program history where they finished as the third best women's team. This stands as the highest finish in program history and included a program-best second place finish in an individual event by Sky Miller in Women's Saber.

Beyond these accomplishments, Coach Moss led the charge in keeping the conference going and helping to facilitate fencing as a whole during this season that was drastically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Women's Team Assistant Coach of the Year: Dennis Kolakowski, Assistant Coach at Northwestern University

Coach Kolakowski, serving as the primary saber team coach in his first season with the Wildcats, helped lead the team and the saber program to historic success. The team achieved a 7-1 conference record, earning CCFC Women's Team Co-Champions and Women's Saber Squad Co-Champions.

Under his leadership, the Wildcats qualified two women's saberists to NCAA Championships for the first time since 2015 and had the highest individual finish in program history with a second place finish by first-year Sky Miller. The outstanding saber results helped propel the Wildcats to a program-best third place finish among women's teams at NCAA Championships.
