COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After dropping a narrow, 4-3, decision to Maryland in game one, Northwestern roared back in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader with an emphatic 10-3 victory over the Terrapins to improve to 17-2 on the season.
The Wildcats bats were on fire in the second game, combining for seven extra base hits including a season-high four home runs.
Rachel Lewis led the way for the Wildcats, going 2-for-4 in game one with two triples and a run scored, only to follow that up by going 2-for-2 with two home runs and five RBI in the second game. The five RBI for Lewis match a career high, which she previously set vs Liscomb as a first-year in 2018 during her All-American campaign.
Jordyn Rudd finished with three hits in game, matching her career high, and gave the Wildcats a lead in top of the first inning with a solo home run, her first long ball of the season.
Angela Zedak added a home run of her own for the Wildcats in the top of the second inning to extend the 'Cats lead to 2-0, it marked the first home run of the season for Zedak.
Morgan Newport tossed 6.0 scoreless innings game two to pick up the win. The fifth-year phenom has now tossed 13.1 scoreless innings to open this season. Newport also went a combined 4-for-8 at the plate today, totaling two hits in each game to extend her hitting streak to nine games, the longest by a Wildcat this season.
Danielle Williams finished with three doubles in four total plate appearances on the day, scoring two runs on the day while finishing with a total of three RBI.
Northwestern will close out the series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for Noon CT live on Big Ten Network+.
