The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead and nearly held on but ultimately could not find an insurance run. The 'Cats moved to 9-6 on the season while Maryland improved to 7-9.
Mike Doherty turned in an excellent start with 7.0 innings pitched and just one run allowed, while striking out three and allowing six hits and a walk.
Junior Shawn Goosenberg hit his sixth home run of the season with a solo shot in the second inning. The 'Cats scored their first two runs in the first on a bases loaded walk drawn by Vincent Bianchina and a hard hit ground ball from Leo Kaplan that resulted in a Maryland error.
The 'Cats totaled five hits and held Maryland to seven in a low scoring affair.
