Baekers' Late Goal Gives 'Cats 2-1 Win

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Northwestern field hockey took down Maryland 2-1 on Sunday, thanks to a late goal by Bente Baekers. With the win, the 'Cats move to 3-1 on the season, their best start through four games since 2014.

Sophomore Ana Medina Garcia kicked off the scoring in the 24th minute with her fourth-career goal. Lakin Berry picked up her first assist of the season on the Wildcats' opening goal.
 
After Maryland tied the score in the third period, it looked as if Northwestern was headed towards its second-straight overtime contest. However, Bente Baekers saved the day for the 'Cats with a magnificent solo-goal in the 54th minute. Baekers, the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, tallied three shots on the day.
 
First-year Annabel Skubisz made her third start for the 'Cats and made four saves on the day.
 
Sophomore Peyton Halsey led Northwestern with four shots and recorded two shots on goal.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team looks to continue its hot start to the season on Friday, Mar. 12, as Indiana travels to Evanston for the Wildcats' home-opener.
