EVANSTON, Ill – Northwestern secured its third-straight overtime victory at Lakeside Field on Sunday with a 3-2 double overtime thriller over Ohio State on Senior Day.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the fourth quarter, the 'Cats scored two goals in the last 5:03 of regulation to force overtime. In the double overtime period, Lauren Wadas scored her second goal of the game off a successful penalty corner attempt for the Wildcats' third-straight overtime game winner.
Wadas scored her first goal of the game with 5:03 left in the fourth quarter off a deflection from the Buckeye's goalie to cut the NU deficit to 2-1.
With an empty net and under a minute to play in regulation, the Wildcats forced their fifth penalty corner attempt of the game and made the most of the opportunity with 26 seconds remaining as Lakin Barry scored a goal assisted from Christen Conley and Shannon Daley.
Just 28 seconds into the second overtime period, the 'Cats converted on another penalty corner attempt from Wadas on assists from Kayla Blas and Alia Marshall. It marked the first multi-goal effort of Wadas' young career.
Florien Marcussen made her second start of the season at goalie and recorded three saves on the day.
The Wildcats improve to 8-2 on the season and are back in action in two weeks when they travel to Piscataway to take on Rutgers.
