Overtime Thriller Gives Fuchs Most Wins in Program History

EVANSTON, Ill. Ana Medina Garcia's golden goal with 30 seconds left in overtime gave No. 5 Northwestern a 4-3 win over Ohio State, as Tracey Fuchs set the record for most wins in program history as a head coach.

The win was Fuch's 141st of her career, passing Nancy Stevens for the most by a head coach at Northwestern.

The Wildcats improved to 7-2 with the win and won their second straight overtime game in a row.

Bente Baekers scored the first two goals of the game for Northwestern, while Lakin Barry tallied the third. Baekers also notched an assists as did Kayla Blas and Peyton Halsey

Annabel Skubisz started in goal and totaled 11 saves on the afternoon, a career-high.

Baeker's first goal came a minute and a half into the contest after she rounded the keeper and finished from a tight angle. She added a second in the sixth minute for her fifth goal of the season and second multi-goal game in 2021.

The Wildcats added a third in a busy first period when Barry nutmegged the Buckeye goalkeeper at close range on a pass from Baekers. The goal was Barry's first of the season.

With plenty of chances both ways, the Buckeyes eventually clawed back into the game and tied it up with just over five minutes to play.

Late in the first overtime Blas found herself loose in the circle and put the ball in a perfect spot for Garcia to make the crucial finish.

The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday with a rematch against Ohio State at Lakeside Field, set to start at noon CT.
