EAST LANSING, Mich. – Northwestern extended its winning streak to two on Thursday afternoon with a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory over the Michigan State Spartans.
Olivia Stone scored the game-winner for the 'Cats off an assist from Aurea Martin just 52 seconds into the overtime period.
The goal marked the third of the season for Stone, tied for the most on the team, along with her team-leading eighth point of the season. The assist for Martin marked her first of the season. She now ranks second on the team with seven points on the year.
In goal, Mackenzie Wood recorded three saves on her way to her fifth shutout of the season and 14th of her career.
The Wildcat defense stifled Michigan State all throughout the game, limiting the Spartans to just three shots on goal. NU also claimed a 10-2 advantage over the Spartans in corner kicks.
Northwestern improves to 5-4 on the season. The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, March 28 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State.
