Wildcats Blank Huskers, 4-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's soccer shutout Nebraska for an impressive, 4-0, victory in its first game at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.

Three different 'Cats found the back of the net in the effort led by Aurea Martin's brace. Regan Steigleder and Madi Kennel each scored goals, while Oliva Stone tallied a pair of assists. Chloe McGhee, Danika Austin and Haley Lawson were each credited with asists.

Northwestern's four goals were a season-high. The Wildcats brought offensive heat and defensive effort that easily stifled Nebraska's play-making. The 'Cats outshot the Cornhuskers 7 to 2, five of which were on goal. Nebraska only had one shot on goal that was easily saved by junior Mackenzie Wood.

Northwestern came out firing with a goal from Steigleder and a goal from Martin within ten minutes. Despite the cushion, the Wildcats continued their offensive push and Kennel ended the half with yet another goal to put the game out of reach for the Cornhuskers. With just seven minutes left to play, Martin sent one home and sealed the victory for the 'Cats.

The 'Cats hope to take some momentum from this win with them on the road, as they are set to face Michigan State on Thursday at noon.
