ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior captain Mackenzie Keegan scored a pair of goals for Northwestern field hockey at Michigan on Saturday, marking the first multi-goal effort of her career.
Northwestern dropped the first of a two-game weekend series against the Wolverines by a narrow 3-2 margin.
Keegan got the Wildcats on the board first just 58 seconds into the game with a rebound off a blocked penalty corner shot. Michigan responded just three minutes later to even the game at 1-1.
The Wolverines jumped ahead with two goals in the third quarter, but a successful corner attempt from Keegan on assists from Christen Conley and Alia Marshall helped cut the deficit to 3-2.
On the whole, the Wildcats outshot the Wolverines, 16-8, including eight shots on goal compared to Michigan's four.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday for a rematch in Ann Arbor beginning at 2 pm CT.
