EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern blanked the Indiana Hoosiers for the second consecutive game in a dominant 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats have now shutout the Hoosiers in their last three games, dating back to last season, outscoring them 15-0. The last time Northwestern had consecutive shutouts was Oct. 18-23, 2015.
Ana Medina Garcia led the way for the Wildcats with two goals, while Maren Seidel and Lauren Wadas each added their first goals of the season.
On the whole, the Wildcats outshot the Hoosiers, 29-4, including 19 shots on goal. Seidel opened the scoring midway through the first with assists from Christen Conley and Lakin Barry. The Wildcats added another goal with less than 90 seconds left in the first quarter on a goal from Garcia.
After a quiet second quarter, Garcia scored her second goal of the game and her third of the season, this time on an assist from Maddie Zimmer.
A little over three minutes into the fourth quarter, Lauren Wadas converted on a penalty corner on an Alia Marshall's first and Christen Conley's second assists of the game to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.
Annabel Skubisz made the start at goalie for the 'Cats and posted two saves in 56 minutes of action before handing it off to Jamie Marold to help the Wildcats post their second shutout on the year, and in as many games.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 5-1 on the season. The Wildcats will be back in action in Ann Arbor on Saturday for the first of two games against the Michigan Wolverines.
