'Cats 7-0 in Big Ten Play After Win over Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- A tight win in No. 3 doubles lifted the No. 7 Wildcats over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. Northwestern moves to 10-1 on the season and 7-0 in Big Ten play, tying their seven regular season Big Ten wins in the 2018-19 season. 

 

Clarissa Hand improved to 9-1 on the season from the No. 3  singles spot after cruising past her opponent in two sets, winning 6-2 and 6-2.

 

Briana Crowley picked up a win from the four-spot, beating her opponent in two sets (6-3, 6-4).

 

Hannah McColgan picked up her fourth  consecutive win from the No. 6 singles spot, cruising past her opponent in two sets (6-2, 6-1).

 

In doubles, Clarissa Hand and Maria Shusharina were forced to win a seventh set in a tight contest at No. 3 doubles (7-5) to seal the win for the Wildcats. Christina Hand and Briana Crowley also won their matchup at No. 2 doubles (6-3) to complete the point to make the final score 4-3 in favor of the 'Cats.

 

Chicago's Big Ten Team will stay in Michigan for a Sunday meet against the No. 26 Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. The meet will start at 10 a.m. CT.
