Williams Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

EVANSTON, IL- Danielle Williams was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time in her career and the first time since April 2019.
 
The Pleasanton, Calif. native was dominant over the opening weekend, going 3-0 over three starts and helping the Wildcats start the season 6-0. Williams allowed no runs and three hits over 13 innings, while recording 17 strikeouts compared to zero walks.
 
In the season-opener against Michigan State, Williams struck out eight Spartans over seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit. It was her first complete-game shutout since she one-hit Indiana in May 2019, a season in which she threw 13 shutouts.
 
The 2019 NFCA National Freshman of the Year started against Rutgers on Saturday and Penn State on Sunday, allowing one hit in three shutout innings in both games.
 
The undefeated Wildcats return to action next Thursday, March 11, as they prepare for a six-game weekend against Indiana and Ohio State in Leesburg, Fla.
