EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern took down the Maryland Terrapins, 60-55 on Wednesday night for its second-straight win.
NU had three scorers in double digits. Boo Buie led the way with 15 points, leading the 'Cats in scoring for the fifth time this season. Chase Audige and Pete Nance contributed 14 and 12 respectively. Audige was hot from downtown, hitting four of his five three-point shots.
Ryan Young and Ryan Greer got the little things done for the Wildcats. Ryan Greer led the team in assists for the sixth time in his career, dishing out four assists. Ryan Young led the 'Cats with seven boards, one of which led to two important free throws late in the game.
The Wildcats employed a balanced scoring attack in the first frame. Boo Buie led the 'Cats with nine points followed closely by Pete Nance and Chase Audige both with eight. The trio combined for 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.
NU was strong on defense, allowing just 26 points in the first period, the Terrapins lowest output since February 5th. Northwestern forced eight turnovers, with steals coming from Miller Kopp, Ty Berry, and Boo Buie.
The Wildcats led by two at the half by a score of 28-26.
In the second stanza, Ryan Young led the 'Cats in the points column, hitting two pivotal free throws in the final 13 seconds of the game. Chase Audige kept the pressure on, hitting both of his three point attempts in the half.
NU's defense was staunch to close the game. They held the Terps without a point for the last 2:32 of the game and without a field goal for the last 4:02. The Wildcats ended the game on a 6-0 run, Ryan Young scoring four of the six.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will conclude regular season action on Sunday, March 7th against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network at 12:30 p.m. CT.
