EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern returns to Welsh-Ryan Arena to close out the regular season with a pair of home games on its home court, beginning with a showdown against the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday night.
In their last time out, the Wildcats rallied in the second half to defeat Minnesota, 67-59, on Thursday night at Williams Arena, marking the 'Cats' fifth win at Minnesota in the last six games. Boo Buie led the way for the Wildcats for the second- straight game with a game-high 25 points, including 19 in the second half, to help fuel the Wildcats' comeback. Miller Kopp turned in 15 points of his own in the win, while shooting 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field and knocking down both of his three point attempts.
This will be the first meeting between Northwestern and Maryland this season. These teams most recently met in College Park on Feb. 18, 2019, when the then-No.7 ranked Terrapins claimed a hard-fought 76-67 victory. Ryan Young led the Wildcats with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with eight rebounds. It marked Young's highest scoring output ever in a Big Ten game.
Tip-off is slated for 8 pm CT, with coverage live on Big Ten Network and WGN 720 AM.
Storylines
- The Wildcats are looking to snap a five-game skid against the Terrapins, their last win over Maryland came in the 2017 B1G tournament when NU stunned No. 3 seed Maryland, 72-64, to advance to the semifinals for the first time in program history amid a historic 2016-17 campaign. NU is also seeking its first home win over Maryland.
- Northwestern made 22 free throws in its win over Minnesota last week, the Wildcats' most against a Big Ten opponent since Jan. 12, 2016 against Wisconsin (also 22).
- Boo Buie set a new career high from the charity stripe against Minnesota as he finished a perfect 12-of-12 from the line, tied for the second-most free throws made without a miss in program history behind only Jeff Grose who went 13-of-13 from the line vs. DePaul on Dec. 21, 1987. Buie is averaging 22 points on 46.4% shooting in the Wildcats' last two games.
- Chase Audige is averaging 1.5 steals per game on the season, the thid-best mark in the conference. Audige leads the team with nine games this season recording multiple steals.
