SOMIS, Calif. -- On a relentlessly rigorous course Wildcats sophomore Irene Kim fired a final round 74 Wednesday to finish runner-up, just one stroke back, at the 2021 Bruin/Wave Invitational where No. 16 Northwestern also finished in second as a team.
Regarded as one of the most challenging courses in Southern California, The Saticoy Club tested all 15 teams and 80 participants over three days and 72 holes. When all the scorecards were signed, the tournament winning team stood at +51, half the field was +25-or-higher, and 264 of 280 individual rounds had scored 75+. In the midst of that, Kim was steady for all three rounds, turning in a 73-74-74 performance to finish T2. She now has back-to-back Top-4 results and has been the Wildcats top finisher in all three competitions this year.
Kim was joined in the Top-20 by senior Brooke Riley (17) and junior Kelly Sim (T19) to lead Northwestern to a runner-up result. The Wildcats have finished in the Top-5 of all three tournaments during the spring season, while Riley and Sim now own a pair of Top-25 finishes individually. a
