STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 13 Northwestern fell to No. 3 Texas, 4-1, in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoors Championships Friday in Stillwater with junior Clarissa Hand knocking off No. 5 Anna Turati, 6-2, 6-2.
Maria Shusharina competed with No. 68 Peyton Stearns, also ranked No. 1in the ITA Top Newcomers, in a 6-4, 7-6 (4) decision and saved two match points.
Hannah McColgan finished her match with a narrow 7-6, 3-3 lead over Fernada Labrada.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow against host Oklahoma State.
