Community Group of the Game Spotlight: Cradles to Crayons

Supported by Northwestern Medicine, Northwestern Athletics will spotlight a 'Community Group of the Game' during each week of a home or away basketball game.

At the Wildcats away game against Ohio State, the athletic department recognizes Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that provides resources such as school supplies and clothing to homeless and low-income children. The primary goal of Cradles to Crayons is to ensure all children have the necessary essentials to feel safe, warm, prepared to learn and valued.

The athletic department has supported the organization's vision through both volunteerism and donations. Several staff members and student-athletes have volunteered at The Giving Factory, a warehouse in Evanston that stores items donated to Cradles to Crayons. During the visit, staff and student-athletes assisted by processing items, packaging donations and restocking stations. Additionally, the athletic department supports Cradles to Crayons through annual community initiatives such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service drive.

In conjunction with Northwestern Athletics, community members are encouraged to support this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 18 by shopping for children's most-needed items on the Cradles to Crayons Amazon Wish List, participating in a virtual volunteer activity, or donating new and gently-used items to a drop off location.
