Supported by Northwestern Medicine, Northwestern Athletics will spotlight a 'Community Group of the Game' during each week of a home or away football game.
In this week's spotlight, the athletic department recognizes Game On! Sports 4 Girls, an organization that seeks to empower young girls through sport camps, classes, events, programs and community projects. Since the inception of the program in 2007, the organization has dedicated its curriculum to harnessing the power of sports to help young women grow into the valued teammates and high achievers of tomorrow.
Northwestern student-athletes have interacted with Game On! participants through National Girls and Women In Sports Day (NGWSD). Hosted by Northwestern Athletics, NGWSD is an annual event that recognizes the positive influence sports have played in the lives of young girls and women while it also celebrates the advancement of females in the athletic sphere. In addition to collaborating through this event, a group of student-athletes on the field hockey team participated in an informational zoom call with Game On! Sports 4 Girls administrators. During the Q&A, student-athletes shared insight into the student-athlete experience and how sports have impacted their lives.
