EVANSTON, Ill. – Head Coach Joe McKeown was named a 2020 WBCA Victory Club Honoree by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
The WBCA Victory Club honor is bestowed annually on each WBCA-member head coach who achieves a milestone of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more career victories during the current season on the level of competition at which they currently coach.
McKeown earned his 700th career win on Dec. 20, 2019 against East Carolina, and became just the 13th active Division I coach to cross that threshold.
Five WBCA coaches also crossed the threshold, and McKeown was one of two Division I coaches to be named to the club while winning 700 or more games.
The special honor comes after a special season for Northwestern, with McKeown's guidance of the Wildcats to their first Big Ten Championship since 1990 and a program-record 26 wins.
For his efforts, McKeown was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the coaches and media. McKeown was also a finalist for AP National Coach of the Year and the Naismith National Coach of the Year.
McKeown currently has 717 career wins. He earned 68 at New Mexico, 441 at George Washington and currently has 208 at Northwestern.
