Minnesota Tops Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. Northwestern's season came to a close after falling 74-57 to Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. 

Sophomore Pete Nance posted 15 points to lead the 'Cats in scoring in the 2020 Big Ten Tournament. Nance has scored in double figures in four of his last six games and for the seventh time overall.

Nance led the way for the 'Cats in the first half with 10 points. Pat Spencer stuffed the stat sheet with six points, seven boards, and two assists. 

Northwestern's defense was stifling in the first stanza, holding the Minnesota offense to 30% shooting. The Wildcats led 31-29 at the end of the first half after a 16-5 run midway through the stanza.

In the second frame, Buie led the 'Cats in scoring with seven. The young guns took charge in the half with first and second-year players scoring 22 of Northwestern's 26 points.

Minnesota couldn't be stopped from beyond the arc in the second stanza, hitting nine of their 14 attempted triples. On the game, they hit 12 threes leaving them two short of the tournament record.
