Wildcats Drop Front End of Saturday Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, KY – Northwestern dropped a tight contest against Louisville Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. 

 

Danielle Williams got the start for the Wildcats and put together a solid outing, allowing just five hits and three runs in 6.0 innings, while striking out nine batters. Williams now sits at 397 career strikeouts and is three strikeouts away from becoming the fourth pitcher in program history to record 400 strikeouts in her first two seasons.

 

The 'Cats opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, when Williams helped out her own cause with a solo homer, her third of the season.

 

After reaching base only twice in the first four innings, Louisville took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two-run double. The Cardinals added an insurance run the next inning to push their lead to two.

 

The 'Cats return to the field for game two of today's double header at 4:30 p.m. CT against Evansville .
