Hrustich Wins B1G Freshman of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern first-year Stephen Hrustich was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after a fantastic weekend series against South Carolina.

The Lilburn, Georgia native compiled a .385 average (5-for-13), including two walks, a double, and a home run on the weekend to propel Northwestern to its first series victory of the season.

In the series opener on Friday, Hrustich doubled and scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning. In the tenth inning, he walked with the bases loaded to extend the 'Cats lead to two.

Hrustich collected his first career multi-hit game on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a walk.

In Sunday's series finale, Hrustich singled and later blasted his first collegiate home run in the sixth inning to bring the Wildcats within a run. He also made a huge defensive impact, throwing out the potential go-ahead run at home to end the seventh inning.

Hrustich is the first Northwestern player to win Freshman of the Week since Hank Christie received the honor on March 6, 2017.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday, as they head to Tampa for a three game series against the University of South Florida. First pitch of game one is set for 6 p.m. CT.
