No. 21 Wildcats Host Spartans for Monday Night Clash

EVANSTON, Ill.
 – After a bye week, No. 21 Northwestern returns to action on Monday night when it hosts Michigan State at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on BTN.


The Wildcats are 19-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play, and they sit in a three-way tie for first place atop the Big Ten Standings with Maryland and Iowa heading into Sunday. The 'Cats are ranked No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, jumping two spots after wins against Michigan and at Penn State last weekend. 

On Monday, the NCAA Division Women's Basketball Committee revealed their current top-16 seeds for the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats earned a 16 seed, which would be slot them as a No. 4 seed in the tournament, hosting the first two rounds in Evanston.

Northwestern defeated Michigan State 76-48 in their first matchup this season, becoming the first team to win at the Breslin Center. Junior guard Lindsey Pulliam and sophomore guard Veronica Burton led the way with 22 points each. 

The Wildcats won on the road their last time out on Sunday at Penn State, 82-59. Again, Pulliam and Burton tied for the team-high in point with 19 each. 

Pulliam ranks third in the conference with 19.2 points per game, while Burton ranks third in the conference with 5.4 assists per game. Senior forward Abi Scheid continues to lead the country in three-point percentage with a mark of 50.5 percent.

Pulliam has 1,496 career points and is rapidly approaching the top ten all-time career scorers in program history, with Kristina Divjak in 10th place with 1,640 points. Pulliam could become the fastest player in program history to 1,500 points on Monday night.

As a team, the Wildcats continue to excel at ball-control metrics, ranking third in the country and first in the Big Ten in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 1.51. The 'Cats rank in the top ten for assists per game and fewest turnovers per game and in the top-15 for turnover margin.

Northwestern is 9-0 in night contests this season and 11-0 when it scores 70 or more points
