Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern men's tennis shut down Illinois State 6-1 to open the 2019 spring season Wednesday evening at Combe Tennis Center.
The 'Cats started the night with a win, claiming the doubles point with victories from Steven Forman/Trice Pickens (6-1) and Chris Ephron/Dominik Stary (6-3).
Simen Bratholm took home Northwestern's first singles point of the night, winning both sets 6-2. Pickens followed up his doubles win with a two set victory (6-1, 6-4).
To secure the Wildcats' victory, Stary took down his opponent in two sets (6-2, 6-1), earning Northwestern's fourth point of the night and clinching the match. Forman added a fifth point with his 6-0, 7-5 win, and Nick Brookes tacked on a sixth with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The 'Cats return to the Combe Tennis Center on Friday, January 17, for the second matchup of the spring season. The match against NC State will begin at 6 p.m.
