EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern football junior long snapper Tyler Gillikin was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team Monday, the organization announced.
The awarded recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-Ameria® ballot. First-and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Gillikin is the first Wildcat to earn the honor since Austin Carr, Tommy Doles and Justin Jackson were named to the District 5 team in 2016. A biological sciences major with a 3.93 degree, Gillikin will earn his degree in the spring and plans to enroll in the Feinberg School of Medicine during his final year of eligibility.
His brother Blake — a senior punter at Penn State — was also named to the First Team in District 2. Gillikin has been the Wildcats' starting long snapper for each of the last three seasons.
