'Cats Drop Top-Ten Matchup at No. 8 Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern gave No. 8 Iowa all it could handle on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately came up short, 2-1, in a top-ten matchup at Iowa City.

Senior Saar de Breij scored the game's first goal late in the first quarter on an assist from redshirt first-year Bente Baekers. The goal marks the eighth of the season for de Briej, extending her single-season career high. Baekers extends her Big Ten lead on most points this season, with 46.

Junior goalkeeper Florien Marcussen recorded two saves in the net. Additionally, first-year Alia Marshall recorded a defensive save.

Northwestern drops to 12-6 on the season and 4-3 in Big Ten play. The 'Cats will close out their regular season slate on Friday, Nov. 1 as they host Indiana at 3 p.m. CT. Senior day festivities will take place prior to the game.
