Baekers Wins Fifth Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

EVANSTON, Ill. – Redshirt first-year Bente Baekers was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, the conference announced on Monday.

Baekers takes home the award after scoring twice in the Wildcats' 4-1 victory at No. 19 Rutgers on Sunday, her sixth multi-goal output of the season. She scored the first goal of the game off a penalty corner in the first quarter and then provided the final blow in the final two minutes of the game via a successful penalty stroke attempt.

The Dutch native from Rijswijk, the Netherlands has now scored 19 goals and recorded 39 points on the season, which both rank the most in the Big Ten and the third most in the country.
