Riley Posts Top-10 Finish at Mason Rudolph Invitational

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Senior Brooke Riley recorded her first top-10 of the season and the Northwestern women's golf program finished the Mason Rudolph Invitational on a high note Sunday.

Riley entered the final round three shots back of the individual lead thanks to a season-best 3-under, 69, in the second round and moved to within a shot of the lead after playing her first nine Sunday 1-under. She stumbled after making the turn however, but still finished as just one of nine players under par in the 54-hole tournament.

The senior led the field in par-5 scoring over the three days at 8-under and tied for the field lead with 15 birdied.

Three Wildcats shot under par in the final round of the tournament, including first year Irene Kim, sophomore Kelly Sim and junior individualist Julia Tournant.

Sim finished tied for 23 at 4-over overall. She was 5-over after the first round Friday, but responded with an even-par, 72, in round two before a season low in the final round. The second-year Wildcat had three bogeys through her first four holes Sunday but responded with four birdies in her last 11 to post a 1-under, 71.

Kim recorded her first collegiate round under par with a team-best 2-under, 70. She played her first nine even par and had back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5. It marked the second-straight tournament of the young Wildcats career that she finished on a high note after shooting even par in the final round of the Glass City Invitational earlier this week. She finished tied for 38th at 8-over.

Playing as the Wildcats' individual, Tournant posted her first collegiate round under par as well with a 1-under, 71. Tournant was 8-over in the first round, but steadily improved with a 3-over, 75, in the second round before her low round Sunday. She had a bogey on her first hole Sunday but responded with three birdies on her front nine and made two more on the front.

The Wildcats will be back in action when they host the Windy City Classic at the Glen View Club in Golf, Illinois, September 30 through October 1.
