Wildcats Drop B1G Opener in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Northwestern outshot Illinois in its Big Ten Opener on Friday night but fell 3-1 on the road in Champaign. 

Junior Regan Steigleder scored the lone goal for the Wildcats from the penalty spot, converting the third goal of her career.

The Wildcats continue their three game road trip to open Big Ten play on Thursday at Nebraska.

  • Northwestern outshot Illinois 11 to seven and led in shots on goal with five compared to four for the hosts. 
  • The 'Cats outshot the Illini seven to three in the second half.
  • Steigleder now has eight career points with the goal, tying her with junior Nia Harris for the active Wildcat lead. 
  • Sophomore Mackenzie Wood started and made one save in goal.
