EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 13 Northwestern extended its winning streak to four games in a 3-0 shutout victory on Monday night vs. Ball State.

Just one day after blanking No. 15 Wake Forest, 2-0, in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Wildcats' defense was up to the task once again, holding the Cardinals without a shot en route to handing junior goalkeeper Florien Marcussen her third shutout of the season, tied for the most in the Big Ten.

Sophomore Maren Seidel, redshirt first-year Bente Baekers and senior Saar de Breij all added goals for the Wildcats.  As a team, Northwestern outshot Ball State 16-0.

Seidel put the 'Cats on top late in the first quarter with an unassisted goal. She now has four goals on the season, tied for second-most on the team.

Early in the second quarter, Baekers continued her red hot play as she converted on her eight goal of the season to give the 'Cats a 2-0 advantage heading into the break. The redshirt first-year now leads the Big Ten with eight goals and 17 points on the season. She has registered a goal in all six of the 'Cats victories this season.

de Breij extended the Wildcats' lead in the fourth quarter with her third goal on the season. She now has 19 goals scored on her career, the most of any active Wildcat player.

Chicago's Big Ten will head on the road next, as they travel to Ohio State on Friday, September 20 to open Big Ten play before heading to Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, September 22 for a showdown against another MAC foe.
