EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern topped Austin Peay, 3-1, in the morning session of the Under Armour Challenge before topping Texas Tech in a five-set nightcap, 3-2. The Wildcats maintained their unblemished record on the campaign, improving to 5-0 in 2019.
The 'Cats kicked off the morning taking set one against Austin Peay, 25-17 with junior Nia Robinson leading the way with five kills. The Governors would take set two before NU stormed back taking the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-14.
Northwestern was back on the court to close out first day of the tournament against a tough Big 12 competitor in Texas Tech. The Wildcats survived a 3-2 thriller against the Red Raiders with the help of strong defense and six aces from first-year Temi Thomas-Ailara, four of which came in set one.
Although Northwestern dropped the first set 25-21, the 'Cats stormed back to take set two 27-25.
The two teams continued to trade sets with TTU taking set three and NU taking set four 25-23, until Chicago's Big Ten Team was able to secure the win a 15-14 fifth set victory.
The Wildcats will be back on the court as they take on Stephen F. Austin in the final day of action the Under Armour Challenge Saturday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
