Four 'Cats Selected to 2019 Young Women's National Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern field hockey earned four selections to the 2019 Young Women's National Championship, as it was announced by USA Field Hockey on May 30.

The annual event is set to take place from June 14-18 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Sophomore Mackenzie Keegan, first-years Kayla Blas and Shannon Daley, and incoming first-year Peyton Halsey were the four 'Cats selected among the 144 field hockey athletes chosen to be a part of the prestigious event.

Over the spring, select athletes tried out and trained at USA Field Hockey High-Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to earn a spot in the tournament that is the next step on the Olympic Development Pathway. These teams will face off for the prestigious title of national champions and for an opportunity to be selected to the 2020 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and U.S. Women's National Development Team, or a trial for the U.S. Women's National Team.

Keegan appeared in all 19 games in 2018, scoring two goals in wins against Miami and Ball State. The sophomore has previously been a member of the U.S. U-17 and U-19 Women's National Teams.

Blas started every match at back in her first-year season. The Pendleton, New York native recorded three assists in 2018, including an assist in her first collegiate match against UConn.

Daley redshirted during the 2018 season.

Halsey was named to the U.S. U19 Women's National Field Hockey Team roster earlier this year. She wrapped up her career at Exeter Township as a four-year letter winner and two-time captain. The Reading, Pa., native was All-Berks County all four years and earned all-state honors on two occasions. Her club team won the 2018 U19 National Club Championship.
