MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Northwestern wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 4-0 setback to Minnesota on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats finished the regular with a 21-2 mark in conference play, setting a program record for Big Ten wins in a single season. The Wildcats overall record of 42-9 marks their highest regular season win total since 2007.
The #B1GCats finished second overall in the Big Ten and earned a first-round bye in next week's Big Ten Tournament in Bloomington, Ind. The 'Cats will face the winner of No. 7 Indiana and No. 10 Penn State in the quarterfinals on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Minnesota took an early lead with an RBI-double in the first inning, but Danielle Williams battled back to strand the bases loaded and keep the deficit at one. The Gophers plated another run with a two-out double in the second inning and two more in the third frame via a lead-off homer and a one-out RBI-triple.
The Wildcat bullpen tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of relief. Kaley Winegarner entered in the bottom of the third and allowed just two hits over 3.0 innings while striking out three. Morgan Newport entered in the bottom of the sixth and pitched a clean frame. She did not allow a run in three pitching appearances (5.1 IP) during conference play this season.
Northwestern struggled to get its bats going against the Gophers throughout the game. Morgan Nelson had the lone hit of the game for the Wildcats in the seventh inning. She has reached base safely in 25-consecutive games, the longest streak on the team.
